Surprise visit of First Lady Jill Biden to Ukraine

Today on Mother’s Day, Jill Biden the First Lady of America pay a surprise visit to Ukraine. There she meets with Ukraine’s First Lady Olena Zelenska. As we all know the latter country is facing a hard time and the whole world is looking for a stop to this war and wishing for the establishment of peace. Today on Sunday, Jill Biden goes to a school that is a temporary shelter for many displaced Ukrainians with 47 Children. Biden said that all this is important to show that we are with you all and that conditions will improve soon. We the people of the United States are with you in this tough time. We are here to support you.

As per the reports today, a virtual meeting was organized with G-7 countries and American President Joe Biden attended it too. It was expected that the Ukrainian President Voloymdyr Zelensky will also participate virtually in this meeting. Jen Psaki, White House Press Secretary informed that All G-7 countries Germany, Italy, Canada, France, United Kingdom, United States, and Japan attended the meeting.

Olena thanked Mrs. Biden for her visit and said we understand what it takes for the US first lady to come here during a war when the military actions are taking place every day, where the air sirens are happening every day even today. Zelenska has appeared publicly first time after the Russia- Ukraine war. She also mentioned that we all feel your support and that this surprise visit on the special occasion of Mother’s day is a gift to us. We would like to note that Mother’s Day is a very symbolic day for us because we also feel your love and support during such an important day,” the Ukrainian first lady said.

Both ladies Biden and Zelenska met for approximately one hour privately in the same school which is converted into a shelter home for Ukrainian refugees. while Jill Biden stays in the country for two hours. Jill Biden went from table to table meeting the mothers and kids. She told some of the women that she wanted to come and ” say the hearts of the American people are with the mothers of Ukraine.” Jill Biden is the latest high-profile American to visit the war-torn country. It was the first time when a United States’ first lady visited a war-hit country. Before this Laura Bush, an American teacher, librarian, memoirist, author, and George Bush’s wife made a surprise visit to Afghanistan. His visit continues for about 10 hours. She visited the same country in 2005 too. Both of Mrs. Bush’s visits centered around her interest and support of Afghan women.

This meeting was a part of the Four-day visit to Eastern Europe to show United States support to Ukraine and its people along with the allied countries like Romania and Slovakia. This type of visit shows that America’s first lady is following in the footsteps of the First ladies who also traveled to the war zones.
