White House new press Secretary – Karine Jean Pierre

Karine Jean Pierre, the principal deputy press secretary of the White House is to become the next press secretary. She is replacing Jen Psaki, the former White House Press Secretary who is going to leave this job role on 13 May. KairenJean- Pierre is the first black woman and also the first openly LGBTQ person appointed for this job role. President Joe Biden officially announced this on Thursday 5th May. She is going to hold the position of press secretary by the end of next week.

Role of a White House Press Secretary –

The White House Press Secretary is a senior official who acts as a spokesperson for the administrative branch of the US federal government. The primary job of the press secretary is to interact with the media in regard to the president, senior officials, and executives in addition to govt. policies. The Press secretary collects information regarding actions and events within the president’s administration and issues the reactions of the administration on the developments/ projects around the world.

Karine Jean Pierre is a political commentator working as deputy press secretary at the White House since 2021. Before this, she has a work experience as a chief public affairs officer for MoveOn.org. Also, she has served as a political analyst with NBC and MSNBC. She had led white house press briefings multiple times in absence of Jen Psaki.

Jean Pierre is replacing Jen Psaki, the former Press Secretary of the White House. Psaki is serving in this job role since November 29, 2020.  Her last day in this job role is May 13. According to reports, Jen is leaving this job for MSNBC, an American news channel based in New York.

After this announcement, Jean Pierre thanked the president Joe Biden and Jen Psaki. She mentioned that this is a historic moment for me, an honor and privilege to be on this platform. On Thursday’s press briefing Psaki congratulated Karine and addressed her as a “partner in Truth” and a “remarkable person”.

Rumors were in the news that Psaki will host many live streaming programs on various MSNBC shows. She will host an MSNBC show on the NBC Universal streaming platform, Peacock. But Psaki declined all this and she is planning to spend more time with her family. She refuses to discuss her future professional plans with the media.

In the press conference, Biden thanked Psaki and mentioned that she set standards for returning decency, respect, and decorum to the white house press briefing room. He thanked her through the words “she has communicated truthfully and directly to the American people and kept her sense of humor while doing so”

Biden said in a statement that “Karine Jean Pierre not only brings the talent, experience, and integrity needed for this job but also she will continue to lead the way in communicating about the work of Biden- Harris administration on behalf of the American people.”
